Amergis Educational Staffing is currently hiring Special Education Assistants/Behavior Technicians for positions starting in November and December 2025!
The Special Education Assistant/Behavior Technician works in the classroom to facilitate educational and behavioral services with children with special needs and collaborates with school professionals and other behavioral specialists to achieve learning and behavioral goals and objectives. Pay starts at $20/hour.
Requirements:
- Earned a minimum of 48 college credit hours OR a passing score on the ETS ParaPro Exam
- 1-2 years of pediatric experience in similar environment
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Highly Qualified Requirements – Under federal law (ESEA), paraprofessionals who provide instructional assistance within Title I schools must be “highlyqualified.” This means they must have:
- Passed a competency test (ParaPro Assessment through ETS), OR
- Earned an associate’s degree or higher, OR
- Completed two or more years of higher education (48 college credit hours)

Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Support
-
Assist in implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) under the guidance of certified staff.

Support students in academic tasks by reinforcing lessons and adapting materials as needed.

Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce learning concepts.

Modify classroom activities and assignments to accommodate diverse learning needs.
Behavioral Support
-
Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) developed by behavioral specialists.

Monitor and document student behavior, noting triggers, responses, and progress.

Use positive reinforcement strategies to encourage appropriate behavior.

De-escalate challenging behaviors using approved techniques and maintain a safe environment.
Collaboration and Communication
-
Work closely with special education teachers, general education staff, and therapists to support student goals.

Participate in team meetings to discuss student progress and strategies.

Communicate effectively with staff and, when appropriate, with families about student needs and achievements.
Supervision and Safety
-
Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and field trips.

Ensure the physical and emotional safety of students at all times.

Assist with personal care tasks when necessary (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility).
Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior incidents, and interventions.

Complete daily logs, progress notes, and data collection forms as required.

Report concerns or significant changes in student behavior to appropriate staff promptly.
Classroom and Program Support

Prepare instructional materials and organize classroom resources.

Support classroom routines and help maintain a structured, inclusive learning environment.

Assist with technology, visual aids, and adaptive equipment as needed.
