Position Summary
The Middle School ESL/ELL Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to English Learners (ELs) in grades 6 through 8. The role includes implementing research-based strategies to support second language acquisition and academic achievement. The teacher will collaborate with general education staff to ensure ELs can access grade-level content and participate fully in the school community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide direct instruction to ELs using district-approved curriculum and aligned with Washington State English Language Proficiency Standards

Utilize co-teaching, push-in, and pull-out models to support ELs in core academic subjects

Develop and implement lesson plans that differentiate instruction based on language proficiency levels and individual student needs

Monitor and document student progress using formative and summative assessments

Collaborate with classroom teachers, counselors, and support staff to develop and implement individualized learning plans

Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and parent communication

Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives focused on equity, inclusion, and multilingual education

Communicate effectively with families, including those with limited English proficiency, to support student success

Comply with district policies, state regulations, and federal guidelines related to EL programming
Qualifications
Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, TESOL, or a related field

Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an ESL or ELL endorsement

Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition theory and instructional best practices
Preferred:

Master’s Degree in Education, TESOL, or related discipline

Experience teaching middle school students in diverse settings

Familiarity with WIDA standards and assessment tools

Bilingual or multilingual proficiency

Experience with inclusive practices and co-teaching models
Compensation and Benefits

$50-53 per hour, depending on experience
