The Special Education Teacher is responsible for educating students with physical, emotional, mental, or learning disabilities. They adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects to students with mild to moderate disabilities. Their goal is to help students achieve academic, social, and emotional milestones through individualized instruction and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Adapt curriculum materials and teaching methods to suit students’ learning styles and abilities.
  • Provide small group or one-on-one instruction in and outside the classroom.
  • Use specialized tools and techniques (e.g., Braille, sign language, assistive technology).
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, counselors, and parents.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and IEP compliance.
  • Prepare students for transitions (e.g., grade advancement, vocational training).
  • Manage classroom behavior and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and challenges.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (Master’s preferred).
  • Valid state certification in Special Education.
  • Experience working with children with diverse disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of special education laws and teaching methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.

  • Requirements: 1+ year teaching experience, MSDE Special Education Certified (No conditional licensure)
