Job Title: Moderate/Severe Special Education Teacher
Location: Whittier, Los Angeles, CA
The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, provides quality services to special education students in grades K–12. This role focuses on supporting students with moderate to severe disabilities, especially those with autism spectrum disorder. The teacher collaborates with general education staff to plan and implement individualized programs, including specialized instruction and behavioral support.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university (preferred)
- Valid state teaching certificate (per state, contract/district regulations)
- Minimum one year of teaching experience (preferred)
- State Teacher Certification; Types:
- Standard Elementary Teaching (preferred)
- Standard Secondary Teaching (preferred)
- Standard Special Teaching (preferred)
- Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) (preferred)
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Current CPR certification (if applicable)
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray (if applicable)
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with students with autism and moderate/severe disabilities
- Strong classroom management and communication
- Ability to adapt instruction to diverse learning needs
- Collaborative and team-oriented
