Special Education Teacher – Life Skills Classroom (K–1st Grade)

Location: Prospect Heights, IL
Pay Rate: $50–$55/hr
Hours per Week: 32.5
Start Date: ASAP
Assignment Length: Through June 6, 2026
Daily Schedule: 7:55 AM–2:55 PM (some Mondays until 3:55 PM)
Lunch Break: 30-minute duty-free lunch (unpaid)
Modality: In-Person Only

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Special Education Teacher to lead a self-contained Life Skills classroom for Kindergarten and 1st grade students in Prospect Heights, IL. This role is ideal for educators who thrive in a collaborative, student-centered environment and are committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized and small group instruction aligned with student IEP goals
  • Lead classroom activities tailored to developmental and academic needs
  • Manage student schedules for inclusion in general education classrooms
  • Implement and monitor behavior intervention plans
  • Collaborate with related service providers to support accommodations and modifications
  • Supervise and guide Educational Support Professionals in daily classroom operations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university (preferred)
  • Valid Illinois teaching certificate with PEL and LBS1 endorsement (K–22 age range required)
  • Minimum one year of teaching experience (preferred)
  • Certifications preferred:
    • Standard Elementary Teaching
    • Standard Secondary Teaching
    • Standard Special Teaching
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Current CPR certification (if applicable)
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray (if applicable)
  • Current health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
