Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of limited or non-English speaking students in a classroom environment by interpreting written materials and oral lectures; serve as an interpreter for teachers or non-English speaking parents as directed; perform a variety of clerical support duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of limited or non-English speaking students in a classroom environment by interpreting written materials and oral lectures; interpret for teachers or non-English speaking parents as assigned.
- Monitor students in the classroom to assure understanding of material being presented; answer student questions; assist students in reviewing homework assignments and test results; correct, score and record tests, papers and homework assignments.
- Read books to students and observe their reading abilities as assigned; assist students with letter and word pronunciation and recognition.
- Participate in the administration and scoring of assessment tests according to established guidelines and requirements; assist in determining English proficiency of identified students; explain results to appropriate parties; maintain related records and files.
- Perform a variety of clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials, duplicating and distributing materials, taking roll, and maintaining various records and files; organize materials to assist student learning; answer telephones and assist callers as assigned by the position.
- Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom and during outdoor activities according to approved procedures; oversee groups of students in games and play activities; assure safe outdoor play; report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
- Provide input and assist teachers with determining student advancement through established learning programs; confer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs; assist in the development of lesson plans as requested.
- Operate a variety of classroom and office equipment including a computer, copier, paper cutter and laminator.
- Assist students with building self-esteem by providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to read, write and interpret Spanish and English
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
- Computer proficiency required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
