Special Education Teacher – Jefferson City, MO

– Location: Jefferson City, Missouri
– Pay: $43.00/hour
– Hours: 35 hours/week
– Start Date: September 8, 2025
– Duration: 9 months

About the Role

The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, provides high-quality educational services to students with severe disabilities, ages 6–21. This role requires a strong commitment to individualized instruction, collaboration with general education staff, and creating a safe, supportive learning environment for students with significant behavioral and developmental needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized instruction and support to students with severe disabilities.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, behavior technicians (BTs), and support staff.
  • Manage classrooms with high behavioral needs, including students who may exhibit aggressive behaviors (e.g., hitting, biting, kicking).
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

Classroom Details

  • Student Ages: 6–21 years old
  • Class Size: Small groups; typically a handful of students per class
  • Support: 1–2 Behavior Technicians per classroom
  • Environment: High-acuity setting with students who have severe disabilities and behavioral challenges

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university (preferred)
  • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state/district regulations
  • State Teacher Certification (Special Education preferred)
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of teaching experience (preferred)
  • Current CPR certification (if applicable)
  • TB test and health clearance (as required)
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
