The Progressive Care Unit RN, as a professionalpractitioner, assumes the responsibility and accountability for deliveringpatient care to telemetry/progressive care patients. The Progressive Care UnitRN demonstrates the ability to make clinical judgments in an effective andefficient manner with supervision. This individual employs critical thinkingand performance ability in the coordinator of patient care, consistentlyperforms according to nursing standards, and is accountable in managing patientcare and assisting others in the management of patient care.  The Progressive Care Unit RN is sometimesalso called a step-down nurse, cardiac stepdown, neuro stepdown, surgicalstepdown and in some medical centers, the PCU is also known as a transition orintermedia unit. 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which thenurse practices
  • One year prior professional nursing experience preferredwith 2 years progressive care unit experience preferred
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Certifications
  • Tele/M/S, Cardiac heavy, (Afib with RVR, Afib, flutter, blocks), heart cath without interventions. CHF, COPD, sepsis, BH/CIWA, post ablations, dialysis.
  • Required to pass Telemetry Test
  • TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable 
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation) 
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
