Under the supervision of the program instructor(s) and/or the program administrator, the Braille Instructional Assistant will support the instruction and all other activities by Brailling materials for tutoring blind and visually impaired students on an individual and/or group basis. The Braille Instructional Assistant will enable students to develop competencies and skills to function in a successful and positive manner.
Minimum Requirements:
- Certification as a Literary Braille Transcriber or Proofreader is preferred
- Minimum six months of experience performing basic Braille transcription; OR satisfactory completion of a course in braille transcription from the National Federation of the Blind
- Must be able use computer notation and other electronic equipment used by the blind and visually impaired
- Must have knowledge and skill related to embossing tools, media, and understand the concepts to be presented when preparing tactile materials
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
