The OncologyRegistered Nurse evaluates, plans, implements and documents nursing care forthe oncology patient population. The Oncology Registered Nurse works inhospitals and outpatient care centers where patients receive cancer treatments. In hospital settings, the Oncology RegisteredNurse assists with surgery prep, patient education and coordination of theircancer treatments. In outpatient carecenter settings, the Oncology Registered Nurse typically helps with treatmentssuch as chemotherapy and infusions while monitoring patients’ vitals, sideeffects, and pain.
Position Details:
- Position: Medical Oncology Infusion RN
- Setting: Outpatient
- Location: Towson, MD 21204
- Shift Opening: Monday-Friday, 8a-4:30p, 40 hours/week
- No weekend or on-call requirement
- Start Date: 7/24
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (opportunity for extension; opportunity to transition internally with the clinic)
- Ratios: 5-12 cases per day
- Experience requirements: 3-5 years of Oncology and Chemo Infusion experience
Primary Duties &Responsibilities:
- Verifies regimen orders and administers infusion medications and supportive care medications according to institutional policies and protocols.
- Recognizes and responds to infusion reactions and other medical emergencies.
- Triage and prioritize needs of patients either directly or by phone.
- Participates and monitors quality improvement activities.
- Assists in the clinical scheduling of patients returning to nursing clinic.
- Documents nursing encounters in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Performs assessments of patients’ functional ability and recognizes physical and safety needs of patients.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and other health professionals.
- Assesses readiness of patient/family to learn and provide individualized patient education.
- Identifies and works to resolve barriers that impede quality, safe, and efficient delivery of patient treatment and care.
- Communicate effectively, courteously, and professionally with patients, physicians, vendors, employees, guests, and all others accessing the practice.
Minimum Requirements:
- Current RN license in state practicing
- One (1) year of experience in oncology nursing preferred
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Experience requirements: 3-5 years of Oncology and Chemo Infusion experience
