Educator – Grand Rapids Home For Veterans (Michigan Department

The Cena Supervisor/Trainer position plays a critical role in training and supervising the Competency-
Evaluated nursing assistant and ensure quality care is provided to the Veterans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervises overall performance of specified CENAs
  • When necessary, use performance counseling and/or disciplinary process to promote acceptable work practices
  • Completes yearly evaluations
  • Assigns and supervises nursing care to subordinate staff as appropriate
  • Communicates pertinent information about member condition and care through appropriate documentation in the member’s record and through verbal and written communications with supervisors, care-givers, other disciplines and departments
  • Responds in a professional and caring manner to questions and concerns of members, and of their families and/or significant others
  • Conducts staff meetings to facilitate open communication and problem-solving of unit concerns and to ensure that information is disseminated appropriately
  • Reports to House Supervisor (RN/LPN appointed by Director of Nursing/Nursing Office at the end of shift to report any areas of concern and/or reports any unsafe working conditions or equipment
  • Provides a monthly summary of all disciplinary action to Project Manager or designee
  • Assists with and manages all work related injuries and incident reports
  • Maintains a record of all training and/or education provided in each employee file maintained at GRHV
  • Prepares, schedules and provides educational programs to respond to identified needs
  • Provides a report of all new employees to the GRHV Staff Development Nurse on a weekly basis to ensure that all new staff has access to GRHV Relias Learning System
  • Works individually with each employee that has been identified as requiring additional training and/or education by GRHV Licensed Nurses
  • Works with GRHV Staff Development Nurse to ensure that all in-service training is disseminated to all contract employees
  • Request feedback regarding quality and relevance of each program from participants and use this feedback to improve presentations
  • Assures that teaching methodologies and materials are appropriate to the topic presented and to the audience targeted
  • Monitors performance of new employees during the orientation period
  • Collaborates with GRHV staff to coordinate overlapping educational needs/priorities
  • Participates in meetings and other relevant activities to identify and respond to training needs
  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
  • Current, valid and unrestricted nursing license in Michigan
  • Minimum one year work experience as a nurse educator or supervisor
  • Extensive knowledge of the healthcare industry specific to Veteran care and CENA role preferred
  • Current CPR/BLS (if applicable)
  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
  • Computer proficiency required
