    Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

    The Medical-Surgical RN is a skilled and compassionate nursing professional responsible for delivering comprehensive care to adult patients with a wide range of medical conditions and surgical needs. This role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The Med-Surg RN collaborates with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and support staff to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Apply the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for adult patients with diverse medical and surgical diagnoses
    • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical exams, and health histories
    • Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapies as prescribed
    • Monitor and document patient responses to interventions and changes in condition
    • Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop and adjust individualized care plans
    • Prepare patients for diagnostic tests, procedures, and surgeries
    • Provide preoperative and postoperative care, including wound care, pain management, and mobility support
    • Educate patients and families on disease processes, medications, discharge instructions, and self-care
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
    • Adhere to infection control, safety, and quality standards
    • Respond promptly to emergencies such as rapid deterioration, falls, or code situations
    • Support patient advocacy and uphold patient rights and confidentiality

     

    Minimum Requirements

    • Current Registered Nurse License in the state of practice
    • Minimum one year of professional nursing experience; Med-Surg experience preferred
    • Completion of Amergis’ Competency Program (if applicable)
    • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
    • TB screening and health clearance (as required by contract or regulation)
    • Compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
    • Successful completion of new hire orientation and Med-Surg training
    • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
    • Strong communication skills and proficiency in English
    • Basic computer literacy
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
