About the Role
Amergis Healthcare is seeking a dedicated and experienced Primary Care Physician (MD) to join the ICE Health Services Corps (IHSC) in Houston, TX. This is a full-time, onsite position providing direct patient care and clinical oversight within a federal detention facility. The role includes collaborative responsibilities with 7 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), primarily reviewing charts and offering clinical guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the on-site medical authority, overseeing all aspects of healthcare delivery.
- Provide direct care to a diverse patient population, including adults and children.
- Conduct physical assessments, manage acute and chronic conditions, and respond to medical emergencies.
- Supervise and collaborate with APPs, nursing staff, and other clinical personnel.
- Review and approve referrals, lab results, and patient documentation.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and staff training.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records.
Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited U.S. or Canadian institution (or ECFMG certification for international graduates).
- Active, unrestricted medical license in Texas.
- DEA license to prescribe controlled substances in Texas.
- Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Pediatrics.
- Minimum 1 year of direct patient care experience.
- BLS certification (AHA, Red Cross, or ASHI).
- Spanish language proficiency preferred but not required.

- Prior work in detention, correctional, or residential healthcare settings.

- Proficiency in electronic health records and Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to manage emergencies and work flexible hours, including on-call rotations.
Security & Physical Requirements
- Must pass DHS background checks and fitness determinations.
- Capable of responding to emergencies within four minutes.
- Able to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, lifting, and CPR.
