Schools & experience with g-tube feeding and suctioning strongly preferred

The 1:1 School LPN/LVN identifies and treats health disorders among students in the school setting. The 1:1 School LPN/LVN provides instruction for the student’s general wellbeing and disease prevention. The School LPN/LVN monitors the student’s physical conditions in the school setting and refers the student to appropriate resources as needed.  The work of the School LPN/LVN is performed in compliance with his/her LPN/LVN scope of practice and according to state education codes.

Minimum Requirements:
Current LPN/LVN license for the state in which the nurse practices
Current PPD or Chest X-Ray
One year prior professional nursing experience in school setting preferred
Pediatric experience preferred
Current BLS card
Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment
Considerable knowledge of child growth and development
Some knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
Some knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services
Understands the school organization and the community served
Must be at least 18 years of age

General Comments
Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a 1:1 school-based assignment supporting a student with medical needs in a classroom setting. This is a new assignment (not a backfill) and offers a consistent weekday schedule within a supportive educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct 1:1 nursing care to a student with:
Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (lung condition)
G-tube feeding (one feeding daily at 11:00 AM)
Nasal and oral suctioning (no trach care required)
Ensure student safety and comfort throughout the school day
Document care provided using electronic documentation in a designated classroom binder
Submit weekly documentation updates to the building nurse
Participate in a meet and greet with the student, parents, and school staff prior to assignment start
Collaborate with the district RN Supervisor for clinical guidance as needed
Communicate effectively with the internal clinical team and school personnel
Confirm and review updated medical orders prior to assignment start
Facilitate a pre-assignment meeting to ensure nurse comfort and readiness
Support Structure:
Behavioral support provided by classroom aides
District RN Supervisor available on-site for clinical support
Transportation: Nurse is not required to ride with the student; district will provide transportation nurse if needed

Qualifications:
Current and valid LPN license in New York State
Current CPR certification
Experience with g-tube feeding and suctioning preferred
Strong communication and documentation skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
