1.1 Special Education Teacher

Essential Job Details:

 Special Education Teacher (1:1)

Minimum Experience/Qualifications

Must have experience lesson planning 

Must have experience working with kids/students

Start Date:

Early June would be ideal (overlap with current staff before end of school year). The support will be for 12-15 hours per week in July for ESY. Then full time starting in Sept.)

Location:

SPS – Very likely Roosevelt and some in home aspects

Length of Contract:

Looking for someone who can work multiple years with student

Schedule:

M-F

Hours/Week (Paid/Unpaid Lunch):

36 per week

Position Details (Age group, Caseload, Duties):

This position is unique – Must work with a paralyzed student who uses a computer to communicate using her eye movements. Candidate would need to be able to take lesson plans from the teacher and adapt them to work for student. Would need to be comfortable working in home and at school. Would need to be good with utilizing technology in unconventional ways.

Pay Rate: 

$40 – $50 pay rate range

1. Tell them she has a 1:1 nurse due to significant medical needs, but they will not have to handle anything medically related
2. Right now the position is mostly in the home, but it is always a goal to be more at school. However, her medical needs right now are too great to go to school and could continue to be.
3. Are you willing learn new technology that allows student to communicate and complete academics using an eye gaze program and an ipad? Seattle Schools staff and the parents are very helpful and supportive with this- no need to be afraid about that. The technology is a required part of the job.
4. Need to be adept at working with school staff on modifications for the classwork even though they will not be in the school building often
