The Amergis Division is looking for a Unlicensed Social Worker/ Mental Health Clinician for a position with Alaska Department of Corrections. 

Position Title: Unlicensed Social Worker / Counselor / Mental Health Clinician
Location: Anchorage Correctional Complex or Hiland Mountain Correctional Complex, Alaska
Employer: Alaska Department of Corrections
Exclusive to Amergis: Yes
Start Date: Approximately one month from submission
Contract Length: 26+ weeks (with strong potential for extension)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (30-minute lunch)
Hours per Week: 40 hours (no weekends, holidays, or overtime)
Shift Guarantee: Yes

Position Overview:

Amergis Healthcare Staffing is seeking a dedicated Unlicensed Social Worker, Counselor, or Mental Health Clinician to provide counseling services in a correctional setting. This role involves working with individuals in need of mental health support within a secure facility, offering services such as assessments, therapeutic interventions, and crisis management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide counseling and mental health support in a correctional environment
• Conduct assessments and develop care plans in collaboration with the clinical team
• Communicate clearly and professionally with both patients and staff
• Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with facility and state guidelines
• Work independently while knowing when to seek guidance

Minimum Requirements:

• Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Counseling, Nursing, or a related Human Development field (Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s accepted)
• Licensing/certification as required by state, facility, or contract
• Experience in inpatient psychiatric care or correctional mental health strongly preferred
• Current CPR certification (if applicable)
• TB screening (PPD, questionnaire, or chest x-ray as applicable)
• Current health certificate (as required by contract or state regulation)
• Must meet all federal, state, and local employment requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age

• Clear communication skills are essential
• Candidates must be comfortable working in a correctional environment

Compensation Package:

Travel Candidates:

• Taxable Hourly Rate: $13/hr
• Housing Stipend: $1,060/week
• Meals & Incidentals Stipend: $700/week
• Total Weekly Gross: $2,280
• On-Call Pay: $4.50/hr (if applicable)

Local Candidates:

• Hourly Rate: Up to $48/hr
