The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator provides quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12.  The Special Education Teacher has a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of student programs including special instruction, tutorial assistance and consultation with general education staff.  

Minimum Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred 
  • Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations 
  • Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred 
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred
  • State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred
  • Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
  • Current CPR if applicable 
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable 
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation) 
  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

What is the age range of the students?

(1 opening) @  Transition

– Caseload includes 7 students in cross-categorical model of classroom, physical disabilities with moderate to severe behaviors, high acuity classroom. Not a typical classroom model, they are learning functional independence and life skills in their gift shop/store on-site. Prep for life outside of educational system.

 

(1 openings) @ Elementary 

– 5 current students, expecting 6 (that will be the cap)

 

(1 openings) @ High School

– 6 students in classroom

Cross-Cat Classroom Model

Description of this Classroom Type: A specialized classroom designed for students with diverse needs, including those related to behavior, social-emotional development, and communication. These classrooms typically offer a flexible, individualized approach to instruction, often incorporating a self-contented model or a combination of inclusion and pull-out services. The goal is to meet the unique needs of students with various disabilities while fostering their social and academic growth. 

 

Caseload size?

Any paraprofessionals they will be overseeing? Support provided?

Students with 1:1s?

Elementary Program:

  • Each classroom does not exceed 8 students
  • Each classroom has a SPED teacher and a TA specific to that classroom only
  • 2 out of 3 students in this program have an assigned 1:1 para

 

High School Program:

  • Each classroom does not exceed 6 students
  • Each classroom has a SPED teacher and a TA specific to that classroom only
  •  3 to 4 paras on average per classroom

 

This school provides wonderful support by working together as an interdisciplinary team: SLPs, BCBAs, SW, RNs, PTs, OTs, RBTs 

If mid-year, remaining IEPs to complete? Students on BIP? (behavior intervention plans)

 TBD on specific assignment IEPs/BIPs

  • Most students experience behaviors (mild/moderate to severe depending on specific caseload assigned)

 

Specific School Building and schedule?

  • One general location; several buildings on site that host each program!

 

Start Date: Open to ESY or NSY start. Can take the extra support whenever with the right candidate! 

 

ESY: June 16-July 24

NSY 25/26: August 22

 

Hours: Full-Time M-F 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM (est. 32.5 hours weekly)

Plan/Prep time?

 Very supportive admin, will work with you to ensure you have the time and resources necessary! 

 Additional position requirements? Licenses, degrees, etc.

CPR 

CPI

Will do this as well with hired staff during orientation week!
