The Registered Nurse – Clinic/Wellness/Immunization works ina variety of either remote or clinic locations to serve a specific population’shealth and wellness needs. The Registered Nurse demonstrates the ability tomake clinical judgments effectively and efficiently to provide qualityappropriate care in accordance with facility’s policies and protocols. These variety of sites include but are notlimited to community or employment immunization clinics, wellness clinics, jobsafety and workers compensation sites and travel health clinics from pediatricto geriatric age populations.

We require someone with advanced knowledge of HIV/STIs, including identifying signs/symptoms, treatment and education, that has preferably worked in an HIV or STI clinic.
Position Summary
This is the career level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibility for performing a full range of nursing assignments as a STI Nurse Educator & Rapid Start RN and perform nursing task at the full performance level in providing care to patients or clients. Responsibilities will include providing guidance and training to others in completing routine nursing task and activities.
The STI Nurse Educator & Rapid Start RN/LPN sexually transmitted infections (STI) assessment, treatment, and training nurse for the Sexual Health and Harm Reduction Service (SHHRS). Candidate must be willing to travel and work on an on-call schedule with the SHHRS Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) Teams for provision of HIV/STI assessment, treatment and sexual health prevention education to individuals, or groups in a multi-county area across Oklahoma in nonclinical setting as directed by SHHRS Rapid Start Manager/STI Nurse Consultant and Rapid Start Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). The candidate will be comfortable working with high-risk patients such as HIV/STI and Hepatitis C, who are at increased risk of secondary infections. This candidate will also manage and administer STI Academy trainings. Duties will include the assessment of individual health, interpreting test results to determine medical and nursing care needed, planning a treatment strategy to meet identified needs and evaluating responses to treatment interventions as approved and directed by SHHRS Rapid Start Manager/STI Nurse Consultant and Rapid Start Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
Education and Experience
Requirements consist of possession of a valid permanent Oklahoma license as a Registered Nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing or, Licensed Practical Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC); three years of nursing experience in a HIV/STI clinic preferred.
Position Responsibilities /Essential Functions
· Initiation and engaging in sexual health conversations with clients and colleagues.
· Obtain sexual history and risk assessment.
· Obtain specimens for STI screening including serology, rapid test, urine, or PCR swab for gonorrhea/chlamydia.
· Performs vital signs and comprehensive physical examinations for STI symptom assessment.
· Administer oral and intramuscular medications for STI treatment per established protocols, or order of an APRN or Medical Director.
· Recognize symptoms of allergic/anaphylaxis reaction and syndromic conditions (neurosyphilis, epididymitis etc.)
· Review lab results to assist with determining a treatment strategy to meet identified care needs.
· Assist in evaluating responses to interventions and making changes in care treatment as needed per established protocol.
· Provide client centered STI information regarding STI diagnosis, STI prevention/harm reduction counseling and education including use of condoms and other STI prevention barrier devices.
· Assist with providing a level of expertise in HIV/STI diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and training modalities according to CDC guidelines.
· Coordination of care/client referrals to higher level of for assessment of neurosyphilis or penicillin desensitization.
· Consults and collaborates with physicians and community-based providers as needed related to patient care and follow up.
· Performs nursing procedures or specialized functions in accordance with knowledge, skills and licensure.
· Perform initial patient work-up including blood pressure checks, weight checks, height and other check list initial work-up tasks as directed by Rapid Start APRN or PA.
· Educate clients on HIV, syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea.
· Assist the DIS program when needed and with prior approval from Rapid Start Manager with field treatment of syphilis during outreach testing and screening events.
· Manage STI Academy two-day training for OSDH and community nurses including the coordination of presenters and training, creation and updating of training materials, presenting and skills check off of training including the issuance of completion certificates to nurses that complete the training and return their skills check list.
· Teaches basic nursing skills and related principles.
· Accessing testing and treatment records in PHIDDO for HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis for Rapid Start clients.
· Data entry in PHIDDO on lab results received from the lab on clients.
· Provide PrEP clients on education on the different PrEP options.
· Provide patient education on vaccines and treatments and possible side effects.
· Navigate prior authorization requests for clients for HIV treatment, PrEP, PEP and HCV treatment with insurance companies and drug-assistance programs.
· Assessing, reporting, and recording health status of patients in a variety of settings.
· Participates in developing and implementing appropriate aspects of a plan of care.
· Administers medications as ordered.
· Reports appropriate patient information to supervisor or appropriate health team member.
· Assist with training practicum students on an as needed basis.
· Provide presentations and education to providers across the state on HIV, STIs and viral hepatitis.
· Assist the prevention team with training, outreach and other needs.
· Public speaking is a requirement as well as presenting in front of large audiences.
· Independently create sexual health presentations based on CDC recommendations.
· Work with Rapid Start Clinicians needs and as directed by Rapid Start Manager.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which thenurse practices
- One year experience as a nurse in a clinic or immunizationsetting preferred • Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
