The 1:1 School LPN/LVN identifies and treats healthdisorders among students in the school setting. The 1:1 School LPN/LVN providesinstruction for the student’s general wellbeing and disease prevention. TheSchool LPN/LVN monitors the student’s physical conditions in the school settingand refers the student to appropriate resources as needed.  The work of the School LPN/LVN is performedin compliance with his/her LPN/LVN scope of practice and according to stateeducation codes.

Student Health Care

  • Provide direct nursing care to students with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, epilepsy). Must be comfortable managing diabetes, asthma, g-tube, toileting and diapering.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician.
  • Monitor and manage student health plans under the supervision of a credentialed school nurse or physician.

Emergency Response

  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid or CPR as needed.
  • Assess and triage student injuries or illnesses and determine appropriate care or referrals.
  • Maintain emergency supplies and ensure readiness for health-related incidents.

Health Screenings and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA.
  • Document all health services provided and report to supervising nurse or school administration.

Care Coordination

  • Collaborate with school nurses, teachers, counselors, and parents to support student health needs.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan meetings when health services are involved.
  • Support students with special needs, including those requiring catheterization, tube feeding, or mobility assistance.

Health Education and Promotion

  • Educate students and staff on hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
  • Promote wellness initiatives and participate in school-wide health campaigns.
  • Provide training to staff on medical procedures or emergency protocols as needed.

Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure compliance with state and district health regulations and protocols.
  • Monitor immunization records and notify families of required updates.
  • Support infection control measures, including during outbreaks or public health emergencies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current LPN/LVN license for the state in which the nursepractices
  • Current PPD or Chest X-Ray
  • One year prior professional nursing experience in schoolsetting preferred
  • Pediatric experience preferred
  • Current BLS card
  • Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment
  • Considerable knowledge of child growth and development
  • Some knowledge of public health problems and procedures fortreatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
  • Some knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws andregulations affecting the delivery of school health services
  • Understands the school organization and the community served
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
