The Educational Sign Language Interpreter supports staff, students, and families by providing interpretation and translation services for deaf and hearing-impaired students. The interpreter also effectively facilitates communication between students who use sign language due to hearing loss, and students/teachers who do not. 

Client Requirement:

Must have one of the following:

1. National certification from Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
2. Bachelor’s Degree and *EIPA score of 3.5 or higher
3. Bachelor’s Degree and Sign Language/Transliteration skills assessment during interview

* Education Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA).

Minimum Requirements: 

• State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable)
• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
• Current CPR if applicable 
• TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable 
• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation) 
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements 
• Must be at least 18 years of age
