The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of theSpecial Education Program Administrator provides quality services to specialeducation students, kindergarten through grade 12. The Special Education Teacher has a commitmentto team participation in planning and implementation of student programsincluding special instruction, tutorial assistance and consultation withgeneral education staff.
- $47-50/hour!
Location: 165 Creekside Drive, Amherst, NY 14228
Position Type: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8am-3:30pm, through June 2025 with an option to extend or convert to a direct hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Special Education Teacher (preferred)
- Candidates pursuing certification with experience in special education will also be considered.
Classroom Details:
- Classroom ratio: 8:1:3
Responsibilities:
- Basic knowledge of reading/writing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Assist with daily living skills, including toileting
- Manage behaviors and monitor for safety
- Training provided for behavior management, including SCIP and UKERU
- 2-3 Special Education Preschool Teachers required
- Mon-Fri 8am-4pm, 45 minute lunches
- Needed for Summer and Fall.
- Summer: July 7th-August 15th
- Fall: September 3rd for staff start date
- NYS B-2nd SWD Certification required
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited universitypreferred
- Valid state teaching certificate as required by state,contract/district regulations
- Minimum of one year experience in teaching environmentpreferred
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard ElementaryTeaching preferred
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard SecondaryTeaching preferred
- State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teachingpreferred
- Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
