The Speech-Language Pathologist in the school setting isresponsible for performing student evaluations as well as providing anddocumenting therapy services in accordance with the plan of care developed foreach individual student and the physician’s orders.
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Evaluation:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students’ speech and language needs.
- Evaluate students’ progress and adjust therapy plans as necessary.
- Therapy Services:
- Provide direct speech and language therapy services to students, focusing on areas such as language, articulation, fluency, voice/resonance, and swallowing.
- Develop and implement individualized therapy plans tailored to each student’s needs.
IEP Participation:
- Actively participate in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, including assessments, goal setting, and progress reporting.
- Collaborate with the IEP team to ensure therapy goals are integrated into the student’s educational plan.
Consultation & Collaboration:
- Work closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to support students’ communication needs1.
- Provide training and support to staff and parents on strategies to enhance students’ speech and language development.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, therapy sessions, progress reports, and communications with parents and staff2.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding documentation and reporting.
Professional Development:
- Stay current with the latest research and best practices in speech-language pathology.
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Compliance:
- Ensure all therapy practices comply with state and federal regulations, including maintaining licensure and certifications2.
Minimum Requirements:
- Active Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Licensure in thestate of assignment required
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-LanguagePathology (CCC-SLP) preferred and may be required by state/contract.
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
