The Sleep Technician or Polysomnographer performs routine and complex procedures, to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of clinical disorders of the nervous system, in at least two of the following fields of technical Neurophysiology: Electroencephalograph, Evoked Potentials, or Epilepsy and Sleep.

- Night shift 7:30p- 6a

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates electroencephalograph and evoked potential equipment to record patient’s brain waves and nervous system response to provide quantitative and objective measures of sensory function.
- Operate stimulating equipment safely to include a click stimulator, pattern reversal stimulator and somatosensory stimulator (electrical stimulation) for study of various sensory modalities.
- Analyzes wave forms during testing to detect evidence of brain disorders and sensory dysfunction; plot and label graphs with identifying information; score overnight polysomnograms; review EEG records and retain representative portions for microfilming.
- May schedule patients for electroencephalographic, evoked potential and sleep tests; interview patients to obtain required medical information; explain procedures, allay fears and elicit cooperation.
- Prepares patient for tests to include measuring and marking cranial area and fastening electrodes to specified positions on scalp and body.
- Records medical history, medications used, test results and identification information on patient’s medical records for review and evaluation by physicians; collect and compile medical information for use in research project.
- Participates in the collection of normative data designed to refine the database of existing procedures. Assists in the cross training of clinical neurophysiology laboratory personnel and students.
- Cleans, adjusts and performs routine maintenance and repair on electroencephalograph, evoked potential and video monitoring equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; reorder as required.
- Maintains liaison with referring physicians to resolve problems and to advise concerning laboratory procedures, techniques and equipment.
- Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in a biological or physiological sciences program or equivalent number of years’ experience in a biological or psychological field; as required by state regulations or contract specifications
- National Board Registration in one or more of three areas: EEG, Evoked Potential, Polysomnography is preferred and may be required by state regulations or contract specifications
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
