The 1:1 School LPN/LVN identifies and treats health disorders among students in the school setting. The 1:1 School LPN/LVN provides instruction for the student’s general wellbeing and disease prevention. The School LPN/LVN monitors the student’s physical conditions in the school setting and refers the student to appropriate resources as needed. The work of the School LPN/LVN is performed in compliance with his/her LPN/LVN scope of practice and according to state education codes.
Patient Care:
- Provide direct, one-on-one care to assigned patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
Vital Signs Monitoring:
- Regularly check and record patients’ vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates.
- Report any significant changes or abnormalities to the supervising nurse or physician.
Medication Administration:
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments accurately and on schedule.
- Monitor patients for any adverse reactions or side effects.
Patient Education:
- Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
- Provide guidance on nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle modifications to support recovery.
Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including care plans, progress notes, and medication logs.
- Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner and complies with regulatory standards.
Communication:
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to coordinate care.
- Participate in team meetings and care conferences to discuss patient progress and care strategies.
Emergency Response:
- Respond promptly to patient emergencies, providing first aid or CPR as needed.
- Follow established protocols for emergency situations and notify appropriate personnel.
Minimum Requirements:
- Current LPN/LVN license for the state in which the nurse practices
- Current PPD or Chest X-Ray
- One year prior professional nursing experience in school setting preferred
- Pediatric experience preferred
- Current BLS card
- Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment
- Considerable knowledge of child growth and development
- Some knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
- Some knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services
- Understands the school organization and the community served
- Must be at least 18 years of age
