The RN (Cath Lab or Cardiac Cath Lab) specializes in workingwith patients undergoing cardiac procedures in a catheterization lab. During cardiac catheterizations, thesespecially trained nurses assist the medical team by monitoring the patient’svitals, assisting with procedural sedatives, assisting doctors, technicians,nurses and the patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administers patient medications
- Assists in diagnostic procedures and interventionalprocedures
- Circulates and scrub during cardiac catheterization andelectrophysiology procedures
- Responsible for discharge teaching with patients and familiesincluding procedural, medications, activities, care of the surgical site andlifestyle/dietary changes
- Ensures consent paperwork is accurately completed
- Performs examination of the patient pre andpost-catheterization
- Manages administrative aspects of cardiac catheterizationand electrophysiology patients
- Monitors and documents patient vital signs
- Monitors for signs and symptoms of infections or sideeffects of the procedure
- Monitors patient sedation levels during and after theprocedure
- Prepares patients for procedures
Minimum Requirements:
- Registered Nurse with a current state license where theywill be working
- ACLS may be required by state/client contract
- Minimum of 2 years critical care or Cardiac Cath Labexperience preferred
- Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
- Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency programwhen applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
- Computer proficiency required
