A Personal Care Assistant is an individual who provides support services to assist clients with personal, physical mobility and therapeutic care needs, as established by a rehabilitation health practitioner, social worker or other health care professional. The Personal Care Assistant may work in a variety of settings, to include medical facilities, rehabilitation centers or in-home residential care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides services to persons who need help with day-to-day activities
- Demonstrates competence in performing the necessary skills based on the patient’s plan of care
- Provides health care tasks, personal hygiene services, and other related support services essential to the client’s health and safety
- Assists with transfers and ambulation
- Performs incidental household services that are an integral part of a personal care plan (if applicable)
- Provides companionship by reading, listening and talking with client
- Assists client in the development of independent skills through self-care activities such as toileting, clothing routines, and personal hygiene
- Implements behavior management techniques in accordance with the directions given by the supervisor/healthcare practitioner; including reinforcing appropriate behaviors in accordance with plans and discouraging negative behavior
- Reports changes in patient/client status
- Adheres to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) privacy policies and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
- One (1) year relevant patient/client care experience preferred
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language may be required
- Computer proficiency required
