The Corrections Licensed Practical Nurse works in close andimmediate contact with adults and children in custody on a daily basisproviding general and emergency nursing care in the Medical and Ambulatorysection of the Corrections Facility while maintaining facility securitystandards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement, treat andevaluate the patient/inmate
- Integrates and implements referrals of inmates to the staffphysician, nurse practitioner, dentist, mental health professional
- Looks for signs and symptoms indicating physiologic andpsychosocial changes in the patient’s condition and reports to RN and/orphysician
- Collaborates with RN regarding the plan of care according toevaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursinginterventions
- Documents patient’s response to nursing and otherinterventions
- Monitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment andequipment
- Participates in infection control activities as directed byInfection Control Coordinator and/or nursing supervisor
- Participates in the orientation and continuing education ofstaff as applicable
- Participates in the Health Quality Improvement Program asapplicable
- Adheres to all facility policy and procedure
- Follow security guidelines and protocol on tools/sharpscounts and ingress/egress policies at all times
- Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
- Possesses a current Practical Nursing License in theapplicable state
- Minimum of one year experience in Corrections preferred
- Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
- Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency programwhen applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
- Computer proficiency required
