The Progressive Care Unit RN, as a professional practitioner, assumes the responsibility and accountability for delivering patient care to telemetry/progressive care patients. The Progressive Care Unit RN demonstrates the ability to make clinical judgments in an effective and efficient manner with supervision. This individual employs critical thinking and performance ability in the coordinator of patient care, consistently performs according to nursing standards, and is accountable in managing patient care and assisting others in the management of patient care.  The Progressive Care Unit RN is sometimes also called a step-down nurse, cardiac stepdown, neuro stepdown, surgical stepdown and in some medical centers, the PCU is also known as a transition or intermedia unit. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care on a progressive care unit
Performs focused interviews to identify specific patients’ needs
Assesses signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient’s condition
Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information from health care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses
Documents the patient’s plan of care using identified nursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursing interventions
Identifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient care requirements
Performs interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standard
Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient environment
Initiates and evaluates patient and/or family education
Revises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, effective/ineffective nursing interventions
Documents patient’s response to nursing and other interventions
Uses clinical judgment in evaluation activities to meet patient care needs of an assigned unit/floor including establishing priorities
Monitors safety and effectiveness of the environment and equipment

Minimum Requirements:

Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practices
One year prior professional nursing experience preferred with one year progressive care unit experience preferred
Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice 
Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable 
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation) 
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements 
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site 
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements  
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required  
Computer proficiency required 
Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Shifts: 3 Nights & 2 Day shift available 
  • RN PCU/Stepdown Specialty 3 x PCU Stepdown Unit, 2 x Cardio-Pulmonary Care Unit
  • Number of Openings-5
  • Contract Length-16 weeks
  • Hours per week 36
  • Certs needed –BLS, NIHSS, ACLS
