The School Counselor/School Mental Health Worker providescounseling to students in need of counseling and/or support with their mentalhealth needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides necessary counseling as required for the studentand/or as outlined in the student’s IHP
- Evaluates the students’ psychosocial needs, and evaluatesthe progress
- Collaborates with all disciplines to plan and evaluate goalsfor each student
- Implements and manages school guidance programs
- Utilizes a variety of therapy techniques and treatmentplans
- Works with students in individual, small group and/orclassroom settings
- Facilitates student learning involving life skills,organization techniques and time management
- Assists students with creating an academic plan for theireducation
- Adheres to Amergis and District policies and procedures
Minimum Requirements:
- Licensing/Certification according to state/facility/contractrequirement
- The Counselor may be required to have an Associate’s Degree,Bachelor’s Degree or Masters in Psychology, Addictions, Sociology, Social Work,Counseling, Nursing, or some other Human Development major per state, contract and/or facility guidelines.
- Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
- Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency programwhen applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and fromappropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
- Computer proficiency required
