Amergis Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Licensed Psychiatric Technician. Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Psychiatrist/MD, the Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) ) assumes direct responsibility for administering or implementing specific therapeutic procedures, techniques, treatments, or medications with the aim of enabling recipients or patients to make optimal use of their therapeutic regime, their social and personal resources, and their residential or inpatient care. The LPT demonstrates ability to make clinical judgments in an effective and efficient manner. The LPT demonstrates critical thinking and performance ability in the coordination of patient care, consistently performs according to established standards and scope of practice, and is accountable for managing and assisting others in the management of patient care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages patient/client care effectively and safely
- Promotes and participates in activities to facilitate good interpersonal relationships with patients/family/significant others, hospital healthcare co-workers, physicians, and all facility personnel
- Gives a basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled voluntary, involuntary or judicially committed clients
- Works with other disciplines as part of the treatment team to provide an overall treatment program for the client
- Under general supervision, performs nursing procedures such as administering medications and treatments, including oral medications, hypodermic injections, urinary catheterizations, enemas, and taking and charting temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration
- Observes clients’ physical condition and behavior and reports significant changes to the unit supervisor or physician and records nursing notes on clients
- Prepares and cares for clients during treatments
- Gives first aid as needed/applicable
- Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team in the development of treatment plans and objectives from assessments of the clients
- Assists in the training of Psychiatric Technician Trainees, Psychiatric Technician Apprentices, Psychiatric Technician Students, Psychiatric Technician Training Candidates and other ancillary staff as appropriate
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Current Licensed Psychiatric Technician license for the state in which the technician practices (LPT only)
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong spoken, written, listening, and nonverbal communication skills
- One year of psychiatric experience in a similar setting within the last three years preferred
- Proficiency in the English language is required
