The Tutor is responsible for assisting service recipients inmeeting their educational goals and aspirations throughpositive educational supportand direct tutoring. Also responsible for enhancingstudy skills andfacilitate the understandingof educationalconcepts. The Tutor may also work one-on-one with childrenwith Autistic Disorder(AD), Pervasive Developmental DisorderNot Otherwise Specified(PDDNOS), Asperger’s Disorder (AS) and Childhood DisintegrativeDisorder (CDD). If applicable pertheprogram the Tutorimplements the Behavior SupportPlan (BSP) designed and maintainedbya Behavioral Supervisorand gathers quantifiable behavioraldata necessary for the Behavioral Supervisor toevaluate the effectiveness of the BP inachieving identified goals and objectives.
Responsibilities
  • If applicable per the program will provide ABA (Applied BehaviorAnalysis) based therapyto individuals diagnosed with autism
  • Works on increasingsocially significant skills(language, social, self-help)and decreasing maladaptive behaviors (if applicable)
  • Demonstratessupport of educational outcomes for servicerecipients supported
  • Inaccordance with individualeducational goals, providetraining and/or assistance to ensure growthtoward goals
  • Listens toand responds to the needs of service recipients, parents/guardians, areaprogram staff, and agencymanagement
  • Assistsservice recipients
    • To develop and/or maintaina structured study plan
    • To improveand maintain self-confidence in the academicenvironment
    • With ensuring a calm and quiet study environment
    • In the development of adaptive and effective copingskills with academicrelated anxiety
    • With access to community resources that assist recipients with educational/academic goals
    • To realizetheir educational and vocationalgoals and help attain academicoutcomes
  • Utilize State Specific Core Curriculum Content Standardsin everytutoring session anddocument appropriately intutor progress note (if applicable per state working in)
  • Completesallmandated supervisionand training and maintainas required
  • Communicatesin a professional manner withservice recipients, employers, parents/guardians, area program staff, and agency staff
  • Required dayto day contact with service recipients,parents/guardians, areaprogram staff, and agency management, both face-to-faceand/or by telephone
  • Advocatesforservice recipients in allsituations
  • Abide by allagency policies andprocedures
  • Performsjob duties in accordance with agencymission and values
  • Performs other dutiesas assigned
  • Abilitytowork as a member of a team, to completetasks as instructed, be receptive to new ideas,and be creative in solving problems.
  • Abilitytoalso work autonomously, settinggoals for work tasks andusing strategies to effectively meet goals.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to learning and improvement.

The Tutorposition is program specific.Thebelow minimum requirementsare to be met basedon the type ofposition and the program beinghired on for.


Minimum Requirements for Basic Tutor (per program specifications):

  • Bachelor’sDegree
  • Abilitytoeffectively elicit/provideinformation to and from appropriate individuals(including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills;proficiency in the Englishlanguage may be required
  • Computerproficiency required
  • Must be 21 years of ageor older and have no history of abuse, neglect,or exploitation of childrenor vulnerable adults
  • At least one year ofdocumented experience with tutoringor teaching children, preferably with behavioral, emotional, or learning issues
  • Reliabletransportation (includingvalid driver’s license,insurance, vehicle registration,andacceptable driving recordwithin companyinsurance guidelines) ishighly preferred so servicerecipients can betransported if needed
  • Must completecriminal backgroundandother pre-hire requirements
  • State specific TeachingCertificate (if applicable per state workingin)
