School Behavior Technician/Therapist plays a crucial role in supporting students with behavioral challenges in educational settings. Here are some key responsibilities and qualifications for this role:


Responsibilities:

  1. Assisting Behavior Analysts: Behavior technicians work closely with Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to implement behavior reduction and skill acquisition treatment plans.
  2. Direct Support: They provide direct one-on-one Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to students with autism or other behavioral needs. This can occur in various settings, including clinics, schools, homes, and communities.
  3. Monitoring Behavior: Behavior technicians monitor students’ behavior, collect data on their progress, and adjust interventions as needed.
  4. Communication: They communicate with caregivers, teachers, and other team members to ensure consistency in implementing behavior plans.
  5. Data Collection: Behavior technicians record and collect data on students’ progress, which helps evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
  6. Collaboration: They collaborate with school staff, parents, and other professionals to create a supportive environment for students.
Qualifications: 
  1. Education: Typically, a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Some positions may prefer candidates with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. 
  2. CertificationPreferred, but not required. This certification demonstrates competency in ABA principles and techniques.
  3. ExperienceAt least 6 months experience working with individuals with autism or behavioral challenges.
  4. Skills: Strong communication skills, patience, empathy, and the ability to follow behavior plans are essential.
  5. Passion: A genuine interest in helping students succeed and improve their behavior is crucial.
Note: Fill-in BTs are not guaranteed daily work and it does align with more of a part-time position. On average, fill-in BTs typically work an average of 3 fill-in shifts weekly.
