Patient Care Manager (PACU) | Travel Contract | October Start – Palo Alto
Start Date: October 2025 | 13-Week Contract
We’re seeking an experienced Patient Care Manager RN to lead the Surgical Services – OR and Pre/Post team at a major academic medical center in Palo Alto, California. Ideal for a hands-on perioperative leader who drives quality, safety, and team performance in a fast-paced post-anesthesia environment.
Position Highlights
- Location: Palo Alto, CA
- Department: Surgical Services – PACU
- Contract Length: 13 weeks, with potential for extension
- Schedule: 5x8s (40 hours/week)
- Shift: Days
Required Qualifications
- Must be a traveler (permanent address 50+ miles from the facility)
- CA RN License; BSN or MSN
- 3+ years of Patient Care Manager RN experience
- Perioperative leadership required — not case management
- 2 years leadership across OR and Pre-/Post-op (PACU)
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- EPIC EMR proficiency
- Previous travel RN experience
Key Leadership Impact (a couple of relevant highlights)
- 24/7 accountability for PACU operations, staffing, clinical standards, and outcomes; role-models perioperative nursing excellence.
- Quality, safety & compliance: leads PI/QA initiatives; ensures adherence to accreditation/regulatory standards and risk mitigation.
- Fiscal & staffing stewardship: budgets, staffing/scheduling, productivity, and variance analysis.
- People leadership: hires/orients/coaches staff; conducts evaluations and performance management.
Additional Compliance Requirements
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray (if applicable)
- Current Health Certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers, and clients; proficiency in English required
- Computer proficiency required
What You’ll Do:
Direct PACU/OR operations and clinical care delivery, partnering with perioperative leaders to optimize patient flow, staff development, safety, quality metrics, and patient experience in a high-volume surgical services setting.
