The School LVN provides essential nursing care and health services to students in the school setting. This role supports the physical and emotional well-being of students by addressing health concerns, administering medications, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment. The LVN works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or designated school health administrator and within the scope of LVN practice as defined by state regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, medication administration, and management of chronic conditions.
- Monitor students for signs of illness or injury and respond appropriately.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with school policies and legal requirements.
- Communicate with parents/guardians, school staff, and healthcare providers regarding student health needs.
- Support students with special medical needs, including those with IEPs or 504 plans.
- Assist with health screenings, immunization tracking, and health education initiatives.
- Promote a safe and healthy school environment through proactive health practices and emergency preparedness.
- Follow all applicable federal, state, and local laws and school district policies related to student health services.
Minimum Requirements:
- Licensure: Current and valid LVN license in the state of practice.
- Experience: At least one (1) year of nursing experience (school or pediatric experience preferred).
- Knowledge & Skills:
- Understanding of common pediatric health conditions and treatments.
- Familiarity with child development and school health protocols.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Other Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
