The Direct Support Personnel I assists individuals withintellectual disabilities or mental health challenges with growth anddevelopment of interpersonal skills and activities of daily living in the home,community or residential setting. The Direct Support Personnel I works directlywith the resident and provides supports for activities of daily living andadaptive skills. The Direct Support Personnel I should follow the guidance ofthe resident/ patients Individual Service Plan.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or its equivalent
- Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health Certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks
Qualifications:
· Must be at least 18 years of age
· Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
· Current auto insurance
· Reliability
· Preferred experience working with individuals in disability community but not required
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED
Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
Responsibilities:
– Provide direct care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities or autism
– Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and grooming
– Maintain a clean and safe environment for individuals
– Follow HIPAA guidelines to ensure privacy and confidentiality of individuals
– Assist nurses with tasks such as taking vital signs and administering medication
– Provide hospice care and support to individuals and their families
– Prepare meals according to dietary restrictions and preferences
– Perform heavy lifting as needed to assist individuals with mobility
Requirements:
– Experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities is preferred
– Ability to effectively communicate and interact with individuals of varying abilities
– Knowledge of ADLs and ability to assist individuals with personal care tasks
– Understanding of HIPAA regulations and ability to maintain confidentiality
– Willingness to work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with other staff members
– Ability to follow instructions and implement care plans effectively
– Physical stamina and ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary
