Role Overview:

The Adaptive Physical Educator (APE) Teacher will provide specialized services to students with special needs who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The APE Teacher will deliver instruction tailored to meet student needs and goals as specified in the IEP, including physical fitness, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills, and sports achievement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Adapted PE Services: Deliver and consult on Adapted PE sessions, designing programs to address physical fitness, gross motor skills, perceptual motor skills, and sports achievements tailored to individual IEP needs.
  • IEP Process & Goals: Actively participate in the IEP process from referral to implementation, including assessments, report writing, meetings, and goal development.
  • Progress Evaluation & Reporting: Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, providing periodic reports on achievement and personal adjustment. Maintain accurate records of progress, goals, attendance, and parent interactions.
  • Individualized Assessment: Perform individualized assessment and instruction in neuromotor development, gross motor skills and abilities, physical fitness, games and sports, and other recreation and leisure activities.
  • Consultation & Training: Provide consultation and training to parents and staff regarding adapted physical education techniques.
  • Documentation: Document student progress and present levels of performance using standardized, formal, curriculum-based, anecdotal, and/or teacher-made assessments.
  • Ongoing Professional Development: Stay updated on the latest research and trends in Adaptive PE. Maintain flexibility and collaboration to ensure alignment with evolving regulations and school programs.

Qualifications:

  • Education: BA/BS Degree.
  • Credential Requirements: Valid California Teaching Credential in Adapted Physical Education.
  • CertificationActive APE Certification – REQUIRED.
  • Experience: APE teacher with SPED teaching experience – highly preferred.
  • Skills: Ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of students. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and the community.
  • Eligibility: Eligibility to work in the US.
